A Mediterranean Herb & spice blend of Wild Thyme & Oregano, (grows all over the mountains & hills most commonly in Jordan, Israel, Syria & Lebanon other Arab world) toasted Sesame Seeds & Sumac. The taste of a za'atar mixture can be tangy, herbal, nutty, or toasty.
Ingredients: Wild Thyme and Oregano, Cumin, Fennel, Anis, Lemon Salt, Roasted Sesame Seeds. Sumac.
Suggested Usage: Za'atar is used as a seasoning for meats & vegetables or sprinkled onto hummus. It is also eaten with labneh (yogurt drained to make a tangy, creamy cheese). Mixed with oliveoil it makes a spread called za'atar-wu-zayt as a dip for the sesame bread rings known as ka'ak. You can spread it on a dough base & bake it as bread, in which case it is called manaeesh.
