(grows all over the mountains and hills most commonly in Jordan, Israel, Syria and Lebanon other Arab world) The taste of a za'atar mixture can be tangy, herbal, nutty, or toasty.’ Israeli’ is a pale green blend of pungent herbs that has the biblical hyssop and sesame.
Ingredients: Zaatar (Hyssop), Sesame Seeds, Salt, Olive, Anticaking E551
Suggested Usage: Za'atar is used as a seasoning for meats & vegetables or sprinkled onto hummus. It is also eaten with labneh (yogurt drained to make a tangy, creamy cheese). Mixed with olive oil it makes a spread called za'atar-wu-zayt as a dip for the sesame bread rings known as ka'ak. You can spread it on a dough base & bake it as bread, in which case it is called manaeesh. It’s belief that za'atar makes the mind alert and the body strong
